First images of Perez on track at Imola for Cadillac with Ferrari SF-23
The two-day testing program for Cadillac has begun at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola, with a busy schedule awaiting Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver returns to the track after his last stint with Red Bull and a year-long sabbatical away from Formula 1. The American team is preparing for its official debut next season, moving rapidly on development priorities. Already, reports have emerged about the production of an experimental floor, a crash-test simulation on a basic chassis version, and a fast-paced overall development program. Cadillac plans to run a filming day on track even before the closed-door tests in Barcelona. This preparation is crucial to smooth operations between a team built from scratch and drivers returning to the grid after a short hiatus.
Perez took to the track early in the morning in a completely black Ferrari SF-23, stripped of any references of the Maranello team, logos, and, of course, the official Cadillac livery that will debut on the 2026 car. In short, no spoilers from the new F1 team. These two days will be essential for establishing a working relationship between the team and the driver, particularly with the race engineer and everyone who will work closely with Sergio Perez.
The work program will not focus on lap times, as expected, but rather on allowing Perez to train, regain rhythm, and reacquaint himself with all in-car procedures. The testing began with short stints of three laps each, focusing on familiarization rather than outright performance.
