Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the 2023 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, this from the pole position (again) but there were plenty of variables out there for him to manage – including a VSC, a Safety Car, relatively cold track temperatures and the usual brake and fuel consumption issues characteristic of Montreal.
Fernando Alonso finished a strong second for Aston Martin after a battle race with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton; Scuderia Ferrari recovered well with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz from a disappointing Saturday qualifying session to finish fourth and fifth; Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was a low-profile sixth; and Williams’ Alex Albon brilliantly finished seventh on a one-stop strategy.
