The 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari started in wet conditions and with all drivers using the intermediate tyres as a result of rain which fell ahead of the Imola race, adding a further challenge to the drivers. Scuderia Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz was the unfortunate victim of a cras which was not his fault but led to his retirement after just two corners, as the Spanish driver was hit by the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo.
While the Australian driver could continue the race in Italy, Carlos Sainz instead suffered the second DNF in a row, after the similar outcome in the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago. The Spanish driver’s frustration and disappointment at the crash is understandable, as he was entirely innocent in the accident and can shoulder no blame, but his irritation also led to a rather remarkable situation which was noticed by one particular fan.
In the footage initially posted on TikTok, the Ferrari driver can be seen strolling towards the Imola track after exiting his F1-75 car, as his fellow drivers were still racing, and had to be stopped by a steward – who was clearly desperate to move him out of the way.
