Enjoy this footage from the end of the qualifying session for the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix, with Gilles Villeneuve and some very hot brakes on his Ferrari 126 C2 car after his best Q2 lap. The reaction of his Chief Race Engineer, Antonio Tomaini, when noticing it while Gilles Villeneuve remains stoic, is priceless. This is one day before the contraversial race with Didier Pironi and two weeks before his death in Zolder.

“Gilles [Villeneuve] always drove as if each lap was his last” Bobby Rahal once said (even when returning to the pits).
