Alex Albon ‘did a Verstappen’ on Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc on the final lap of the Race for the World fundraiser event- several Formula 1 drivers banding together to raise money for the World Health Organisation’s Covid-19 Solidarity Relief Fund.
Charles Leclerc and George Russell have been keeping fans entertained over recent days with their antics on social media, but the reaction of the pair when Albon ran Leclerc off the track at turn three of the Red Bull Ring on the final lap of the race was priceless.
“Oh mate, you did a Verstappen!” cried Leclerc. “Oh mate, you just did a Verstappen! I don’t even have the DRS!”
In case the message hadn’t been made clear, Russell also chimed in to say, “Alex just did a Verstappen.”
The scenario played out differently in the virtual world to how it had in the real world however, with Albon being handed a five-second time penalty, meaning that Leclerc claimed the race win.
In the real world equivalent, the decision was that this was a racing incident and Verstappen kept the win.
