German automobile magazine ‘Auto Motor und Sport’ reflects on Seabstian Vettel leaving Scuderia Ferrari and the reasons which led to this outcome:
“At some point during the 2019 Formula 1 season, Sebastian Vettel must have lost faith that Ferrari, with this structure and these people, will be able to hold its own against the perfect Mercedes machinery and a Red Bull team, that regained their strength back. He was perfectly aware that with a reduced budget cap it will be even harder for Ferrari to win. The three big teams will suffer most from the restrictions. To do the same job with 300 employees less is not easy for anyone. Least of all a team that knew no limits financially.” – ‘Auto Motor und Sport’ reports on Wednesday.
“The realization that the current difficult times are rearranging the priorities in life etc. suggests that Sebastian Vettel is preparing for a break from racing. Or wants to gain time because he has no option at the moment in which to actively participate..Surely Leclerc also played a role. Charles is Everybody’s darling on the team, just as Vettel was at Red Bull in 2009. A driver can feel something like that. He is Ferrari’s future, Vettel is almost a part of their past. Anyone who knows Sebastian Vettel knows that he would have driven even for free for this 5th title if he had seen a realistic chance. A World Championship with Ferrari would have been more important to him than four with Red Bull.” – Michael Schmidt added for AMuS.
According to the German media, Red Bull is not an option for Sebastian, who knows only too well that everything is pointing in the direction of Max Verstappen there. The door at McLaren will probably close this week. And Renault is not a good match for Vettel. It would be considered a demotion. If Lewis Hamilton stays at Mercedes, there’s no room for Vettel there. Mercedes has enough drivers. Bottas has a contract until the end of the year and should get a fourth chance if this season ever starts.
