Usain Bolt has spoken about his hopes for Lewis Hamilton’s future.
During the Miami Formula E E-Prix, Usain Bolt – an eight-time Olympic gold medallist – gave an interview in which he shared his expectations for the future of Lewis Hamilton. With the dawn of a new era in Formula 1 approaching, and after a subdued year with Ferrari, expectations are high for the seven-time world champion’s 2026 season.
In the interview, the sporting legend insisted that the 40-year-old will “without a doubt” return to the top of Formula 1. Admittedly, 2025 was the worst season of his career, with zero wins and zero podiums, but forecasts for the coming year are very different. The British driver himself has admitted that he is pleased with how things are progressing and that within Ferrari there is a clear “winning mentality”.
Many of Lewis Hamilton’s struggles during his debut season with the Maranello-based team stemmed from the difficulty of adapting to a new team. After 12 years with Mercedes, moving into a different environment, with new habits and working methods, was not easy for the British driver. And beyond the change of surroundings, the SF-25 itself also played a role in Hamilton’s difficulties.
As one of the oldest drivers on the grid, many believed that he had lost some of his motivation to win. For Bolt, however, that is not the case. On the contrary, the Olympic champion firmly believes that the seven-time world champion will return to the summit of Formula 1 and, with time, will manage to secure the long-awaited eighth title.
Bolt’s words
According to RacingNews365, Usain Bolt spoke about the challenges of staying physically and mentally fit as age increases, while insisting that Lewis Hamilton will return to the very top of Formula 1 in the future.
“I think it will always be tough. But I’m someone who knows what it takes to get to the top, and [I can say that] you’ll never be perfect,” said the Jamaican champion. “It’s much easier to get back to the top, because you know the work and you know what you have to do to get back there.”
“So, as far as I’m concerned, I know it will be tough for Lewis. It will take him at least two years to really feel comfortable, settle in and get used to Ferrari. So I’m really looking forward to the next few years. He will definitely show himself again.”
The new regulations appear very positive for Lewis Hamilton, who spoke highly of the sensations he felt in the Ferrari after the five days of testing in Barcelona. As a result, his dream of becoming an eight-time world champion could be closer than ever. And Bolt not only believes he can achieve it, but the fastest man in the world also insisted that he considers the Briton the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time.
“[Hamilton the greatest in F1 history?] Yes, absolutely, without a doubt. I can’t wait for him to get back to the top, because, as I said, he knows what it takes to get there and to stay there,” he concluded.
As the 2026 Formula 1 season kicks off, the endorsement from a fellow sporting icon like Usain Bolt highlights the global belief in Lewis Hamilton’s enduring talent. Whether the combination of Ferrari’s new technical direction and Hamilton’s veteran experience can finally deliver that record-breaking eighth title remains the most anticipated storyline of the year.
