Ferrari has scheduled the debut of some updates on the SF-23 for the Spanish Grand Prix. The car has been modified with updates designed at the factory after the disappointing performances in the early races of the season. On the challenging Spanish circuit in Barcelona, the Maranello team will have a new bodywork with sloping side pods inspired by Red Bull, and an updated floor, aiming to start addressing the difficulties encountered by their drivers on the track.
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, low profile
With the evident advantage shown by Red Bull, especially in the race, Scuderia Ferrari does not intend to give false expectations to the fans. On Thursday at Montmelo, both drivers appeared rather cautious in their expectations towards the new development package. Carlos Sainz openly stated that “it’s not something that will change our lives,” and Charles Leclerc highlighted that he doesn’t “expect miracles,” but rather continuous steps in the right direction.
Updates, first Carlos Sainz and then Charles Leclerc
In today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, written by Fulvio Solms, it is analyzed: “Everyone seems to want to lower their expectations. Ferrari, with the flop of the SF-23, has found itself in a media dead-end: if it keeps a low profile, it’s disappointing, if it raises expectations, it risks setbacks, as happened in Monte Carlo.”
The Italian daily newspaper then revealed the attack plan of the Red team in Barcelona: “This morning, in the first practice session, this revised and corrected Ferrari will be driven by Carlos Sainz, while Charles Leclerc will run with the old one,” for a classic comparative test between the two versions of the car. “If the Red Bull-inspired Red team car works, they will both have it in the afternoon. Yesterday, meanwhile, the new car – let’s call it that for clarity – remained hidden in the garage, while pit stop tests were carried out with the old one outside in the pit lane.”
