The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has welcomed with great pride the official confirmation of Formula 1’s return to Istanbul Park. The head of state delivered an extensive statement to celebrate the new agreement, which will run until 2031, emphasizing the importance of the event for the entire nation.
“Formula 1 represents one of the most prestigious sporting events at a global level, standing out for the spectacle it offers, for its strong following among younger generations, and for its technological excellence in the world of motorsport,” Erdogan began. “Within our borders as well, this category enjoys a vast and diverse audience. We are talking about a passionate fanbase that reaches nearly 19 million domestic viewers, with around 7.5 million highly active users across various social media platforms.”
The President also highlighted Turkey’s motorsport heritage: “Up to now, we have hosted nine Grands Prix, seven between 2005 and 2011 and two more during the Covid era. Starting from 2027 and running through to 2031, God willing, Istanbul Park will once again be the stage for five seasons filled with excitement and adrenaline, showcasing its iconic Turn 8, so beloved by fans.”
In closing his remarks, Erdogan pledged full commitment to the event’s success: “I consider this return to the official calendar as clear proof of strong confidence in Turkey’s organizational capabilities, in our cutting-edge infrastructure, and, not least, in our renowned hospitality. We will repay this trust by delivering flawless events, just as we have done in the past. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who worked hard to bring Formula 1 cars back to Istanbul. My hope is that this bond between our nation and motorsport will become even stronger in the years to come.”
The return of the Turkish Grand Prix marks a significant victory for Istanbul Park and its dedicated fanbase, who have long campaigned for the circuit’s comeback. President Erdogan’s personal backing highlights the strategic importance of Formula 1 as a showcase for national infrastructure and global tourism. By securing a long-term commitment through 2031, Turkiye is positioning itself as a permanent fixture in the modern F1 era, ensuring that the legendary challenges of Turn 8 will continue to test the world’s best drivers for years to come.
