The trophy for the Brazilian GP, designed by Lenovo, closely resembles the one awarded to the winner of the Chinese GP last April.
However, during the trophy presentation, the emphasis was placed directly on “the beauty of the country, which, with the help of technology, will also bring a reference to Brazil’s typical forests to the podium.”
The Brazilian trophy is already a topic of discussion
“The trophy captures the vibrant landscapes of the Brazilian environment, celebrating the harmonious coexistence between nature and technology,” says Philip Marchington, executive creative director of corporate marketing at Lenovo, the main sponsor of the Grand Prix.
Designed by the Pininfarina brand, the trophy features a round shape inspired by the Brazilian flag, representing the sky and rivers. The green details are inspired by the local flora. “They capture the vital energy of Brazil’s lush vegetation,” while also paying homage to past Olympic champions, who received laurel crowns on the podiums.
Additionally, the trophy includes a sensor that activates a light pattern when touched, mimicking falling rain. “The design of the F1 trophy for Brazil draws inspiration from the timeless symbolism of laurel crowns, while embracing Lenovo’s pursuit of innovation,” states Paolo Trevisan, one of the representatives from Pininfarina.
A storm has already erupted on social media, with various fans quickly noting the resemblance to the trophy awarded to Max Verstappen at the Chinese GP last April. Indeed, under various posts, photos of the podium from China have already been shared. In short, even here, trophies are already a subject of controversy.
In celebration of one of the world's most crucial ecosystems, this year's Brazilian @F1 Lenovo Grande Premio de São Paulo trophy embodies the spirit of the majestic Amazon rainforest with lights programmed to mimic falling rain when lifted or worn. 🌧 #LenovoF1
