Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc took part in Thursday’s official press conference in Sakhir, ahead of the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season, which takes place this weekend in Bahrain. Here are some of the most important comments from Charles in his first press conference of the new F1 championship:
Charles on Ferrari’s pace:
“At Ferrari, we didn’t show our full potential, but Red Bull didn’t show it either. We will see it in Qualifying. It’s difficult to know exactly what level we are at, but the general idea says that we are a little behind. The feeling of winning is what drives me every day. Ferrari deserves to win the world title. We want to make this dream a reality and we will push to achieve it. The whole team is motivated. We worked a lot in Maranello on the simulator. I can’t wait to race!”
Charles on winning the 2023 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix:
“Winning the first race as we have seen is not everything, developments over the course of the season are just as important, indeed, they are even more important. In any case, I think it has been a very positive testing session because we did a lot of laps, we didn’t have any reliability problems and we did all the tests we wanted to do. All the checks that needed to be carried out on the car were carried out, so they were positive tests, but we have to wait to understand exactly our level compared to that of others.”
Charles on the battle with Red Bull:
“They got off to a very strong start, Red Bull and Max did some great testing, as such it’s hard to quantify how far ahead they are, but they seem a little ahead of us, so we have some work to do, but it’s only the beginning. The goal is to improve by one position compared to last year”.
Charles on Fred Vasseur:
“Fred is really good at extracting the best out of the people by putting them in the best conditions. This we can already see some benefits.”

What have you been doing since testing?”
Charles: “Tennis… I will prefer not to speak about it. I broke my first racket before yesterday, because of the frustration…”
Gasly: “Ah, you’re very relaxed!”
Charles: “Tennis made me a bit anxious.”
Charles on Aston Martin:
“They were the surprise of the tests. The first data confirmed the rumors & they seem to be among the first. We’ll see in qualifying and in the race , but they can be the surprise.”
