Ferrari has to settle for a third and fifth place on the starting grid for the Sprint of the Brazilian GP after a shootout qualifying that was not exactly optimal, but Vasseur remains confident. The Maranello team principal commented on Friday for his drivers and, while admitting the difficulties, renews the positive outlook for the weekend.
Fred Vasseur is aware that Ferrari gave its best. “It was the best we could do with the setup we chose. We’ll try to do our best for tomorrow’s qualifying. We have two cars in the top 5, so that’s fine.”
Can Ferrari win in Brazil?
Certainly, the fact that the two McLarens start in front of everyone could be an issue for the world standings. However, the problem would be limited since the points at stake in the Sprint are much fewer than those in the race. This is why the French team principal knows that full focus is on Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.
Then he commented on the situation with the new Interlagos track surface, which is causing quite a few problems. “This asphalt is almost a disaster, and it seems everyone has had difficulties. Everyone, except McLaren, who found a better setup and understood how to handle the bumps on the track.” – the French manager pointed out.
For Saturday and likely for the Sprint, Ferrari’s choice will fall on the yellow tire. “But even with the tire situation, we’re waiting for the weather forecast for the race and trying to fully understand it. Our priority is Sunday’s race and qualifying; we need to figure out which tires to use.” – Fred Vasseur explained.
He concludes firmly. “We must always try to attack, not defend. It will be a long fight; some races will be easier, others less so. We always push to the maximum and will give everything to always stay in front.”
