Lewis Hamilton summed up a demanding 2026 Belgian Grand Prix weekend in just a few words after crossing the finish line in fourth place at Spa-Francorchamps. Speaking over the Ferrari team radio, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion told his crew: “Tough weekend, guys!”
The message reflected the frustration of a weekend in which Lewis Hamilton had shown the pace to fight near the front but faced several setbacks across qualifying and the race. Despite those difficulties, the Ferrari driver recovered to secure fourth place and collect valuable points for the team.

Lewis Hamilton’s immediate radio reaction offered an honest summary of his experience at Spa. Although fourth place represented a solid result, the final position did not fully reflect the potential Ferrari had demonstrated during parts of the weekend.
The British driver had been competitive during practice, but his preparations were disrupted by a crash in the final session before qualifying. Ferrari was forced to carry out significant repairs, and Lewis Hamilton later explained that the car did not feel exactly the same once he returned to the track.
That loss of continuity made an already challenging weekend even more complicated. Spa requires complete confidence from the driver, particularly through its high-speed corners, where even a small change in balance can affect lap time and tyre management.
Hamilton battles through a complicated race at Spa
The Belgian Grand Prix itself was far from straightforward for Lewis Hamilton. He had to deal with traffic, strategic interruptions and damage sustained during the opening stages, while Ferrari also faced a notable performance disadvantage on the longest straights.
Despite those limitations, Lewis Hamilton remained in contention for a strong result. His race pace allowed him to move forward and challenge the cars ahead, although the timing of the Virtual Safety Car periods changed the strategic picture and created opportunities for several rivals.
Ferrari attempted to maximise the situation with a double pit stop, but Lewis Hamilton lost additional time during the tyre change as the team also tried to make an adjustment to the front wing. The delay made his recovery more difficult and left him with extra work to do during the second half of the race.
For Lewis Hamilton, the priority will be to put the disruption of Spa behind him and complete a cleaner weekend in Budapest. His fourth-place finish limited the damage, but his post-race team radio made his feelings clear: Ferrari had endured a difficult Belgian Grand Prix weekend, even if the final result still delivered useful championship points.
