Tough weekend for Carlos Sainz: physical issues reported by Ferrari driver | F1 Baku GP. Carlos Sainz’s weekend in Azerbaijan seems challenging.

Carlos Sainz’s weekend in Azerbaijan seems challenging after he admitted to experiencing some physical problems following Friday’s sessions at the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit. Scuderia Ferrari appears to be in excellent shape this weekend, aiming to replicate the performance seen in Monza. The characteristics of the track, with its slow 90° corners and long straights, suit the SF-24 well. This was confirmed by Carlos Sainz himself, although some physical issues have emerged that could impact his Baku weekend.

Carlos Sainz revealed that Friday’s practice sessions were affected by neck pain after a poor night’s sleep before the two sessions. The issue seems to have had minimal effect on his performance, as the Spaniard ended Friday with the fifth-fastest time after two rather challenging sessions. A dirty track and numerous red flags made the teams’ work more difficult.

Speaking at the end of the second free practice session, Carlos Sainz explained the problem that partially disrupted his work schedule. “I don’t feel 100% with my neck. I think I slept very poorly [Thursday night] and I can barely move. I managed to get through the day and I’m ready [for Saturday].”

Fortunately, there are no high-speed corners that put pressure on the neck. However, intense braking zones remain, which could stress the Ferrari driver and exacerbate the pain.

The fight for pole position will be tough, especially on a track where confidence with the car is crucial. Regarding his chances, Carlos Sainz expressed some concern about the track, saying, “No one has put together good laps consistently.” – the Spanish driver pointed out.

“We are confident of being on pace, along with the Red Bulls, McLarens, and Mercedes. The race will be extremely competitive, and it will come down to tire preparation, putting together a good lap, being in the right place at the right time before yellow and red flags.” – Carlos Sainz concluded.
