Home » Toto Wolff reflects on his relationship with Ferrari current and former bosses

Toto Wolff reflects on his relationship with Ferrari current and former bosses. Toto Wolff interview.

Do you think Andy Cowell could end up in Maranello?
Toto Wolff: “He is one of the best engine chiefs. There is interest in him: he will evaluate the best option.”

There will be no “party mode” in qualifying: Marko has shown optimism, he hopes that things will change…
Toto Wolff: “Helmut always lives on hope! Certainly the end of party mode will have consequences because in development we worked a lot on the possibility of having more performance in qualifying. But compared to our rivals, we think we’ll just lose a tenth, maybe one and a half. On the other hand, we will have a good advantage in the race because the engine will not be exploited in qualifying”

Your relationship with Binotto is not the best compared to how it was with Marchionne and Arrivabene…
Toto Wolff: “The relationship with Marchionne and Arrivabene was special. Marchionne wanted me out of Mercedes to manage Liberty to make the team less strong. Of course there were difficult moments, especially with Sergio before he died, but the last message I received from him was: ‘We will meet again’. I have never deleted it. With Mattia perhaps we have a different approach, different characters. A certain friendship was born with Maurizio. I learned a lot from him in terms of marketing and design, we are still in touch.”

Will we see you again at the Mercedes pit wall next year?
Toto Wolff: “I’ve been thinking about it for a year. But I came to the conclusion that the place where I am the happiest, is the heart of the team, the garage. So at the moment, yes.”
