Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has hinted that Ferrari Driver Academy member Mick Schumacher will one day drive for the Maranello team in Formula 1. The 22-year-old driver is the son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, who became an icon of the sport by winning six of his seven Formula 1 world championships with the famous Maranello team.
Many Scuderia Ferrari fans are delighted with the idea of seeing the young German driver follow in his father’s footsteps and wear the red racing suit at some point in his future career. Mick Schumacher has tested for the Maranello team in the last few years and is an official reserve driver for Ferrari this season, but has endured a difficult first Formula One campaign in 2021 with Haas, due to the poor performance of the team’s car. The Ferrari junior finished 19th in the drivers’ standings and did not manage to score any points, having to settle only for internal on track battles with teammate Nikita Mazepin.
Yet the German has definitely learned many important lessons from his F1 debut year and will now be hoping to continue his progress in 2022, with Haas confident its next campaign will be much better after focusing its resources on this year’s car.

In the meanwhile, Mick Schumacher has certainly caught the eye of his adversaries, most notably Toto Wolff who feels he has the capabilities to drive for a top team, such as Scuderia Ferrari.
“Only when a driver has the experience, doesn’t make big mistakes anymore, convert the speed, then he can bring in big successes in a top car,” the Mercedes boss said, as reported by RTL – “I see Mick as a confident young driver, who knows what he can do and who knows that he needs his time. Now it’s about taking the pressure off his shoulders, letting him drive. He is with Haas in a team where he can learn. Mick has the talent and intelligence to make his way in a top team and compete for race wins and maybe championships in the future. The most important thing is to take the pressure off Mick’s shoulders. Of course, he has the great name of the best Formula 1 driver of all time with a strong personality. But Mick is doing very well.” – Toto Wolff concluded.
