For Scuderia Ferrari these are days of evaluations and decision making from the senior management, as we wait for the official announcement regarding the name of the Italian side’s future team principal. While Mattia Binotto will remain in office until December 31st, the Maranello team is getting ready for yet another revolution at the top of its Formula 1 Racing Division.
Austrian billionaire motorsport executive, investor, and former racing driver Toto Wolff, who currently holds a 33% stake in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and is Team Principal and CEO of the team, has expressed on Mattia Binotto’s successor, with the latter indicating the characteristics that a manager must have in order to be able to manage such an important position.
“It is very difficult to judge” – said Toto Wolff, interviewed by the Beyond The Grid podcast a few days ago, speaking of the right profile that the Maranello senior management is looking for in view of the next team principal – “You have to understand motor racing, perhaps more than just Formula 1. But it is such a niche where the sport, the regulations, the governing body, the commercial rights holder, those who compete, we are all basically locked in this paddock cage. You have to be politically astute. It’s a very political and specialist environment. The more you know about the sport, the better. You can be a good racing manager and not understand anything that happens commercially or out of this world.” – Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said, when asked about the role of team boss in Formula 1.
