Let’s take a look at the top speed for each lap and, global race pace and tyre degradation based on data collected from the 2023 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, which was held at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest:
Medium was the best compoud at the Hungaroring: it was quicker than Hard (as expected), but also almost equally as durable: the Hard got as quick only after 25 laps!
Yet, some teams did better stints on the Mediums than on the Hards
The soft compounds seemed uncompetitive (but its pace looks worse due to traffic)
Some clear observations based on the graph above:
Race Pace in Hungary can be summed up as:
Red Bull > Mercecedes = McLaren > Ferrari >Aston Martin
Driver performance mattered:
VER vs PER: 0.51s/lap difference
HAM vs RUS: 0.37
NOR vs PIA: 0.41
LEC vs SAI: 0.1
ALO vs STR: 0.33
RIC vs TSU: 0.26 (‼️)
It is clear that only Aston Martin had a worse pace than Ferrari in terms of top teams, while the Haas is a tyre-shredder
Sergio Perez reached 327km/h, pretty high for the high-downforce Hungarian GP!
