Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz looks back on the incident at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, as his power unit failed and his engine caught fire in the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix:
“It was a very tricky situation. I wanted to jump out, but the car was rolling backwards, and the car was catching fire. I was waiting for the marshals to come, but they came quite late. It was a bit of a moment, but nothing happened. We were on for a very easy P2 and 1-2 for the team. We were very quick on hard tyres, catching back up to Charles. I had the pace, but it’s the story of my season: as soon we get some momentum, something goes wrong.” – Carlos Sainz said.
