The start of the 2021 Formula One season in Bahrain less than seven days ago does not mean that the rest of the championship will continue as initially planned. The pandemic crisis still underway worldwide may lead to several events being cancelled despite a well-studied health protocol by Formula One already from last year.

According to the Brazilian newspaper UOL , more than two appointments are at risk of cancellation in the coming weeks. In particular, they are the Canadian Grand Prix , as is traditionally set in mid-June, and the Brazilian Grand Prix in November. For now, the Montreal race is heavily conditioned by the possibility of circumventing the 14-day quarantine imposed by the local government for anyone arriving from abroad, while the health situation of the South American country remains one of the most critical globally.
If these two rounds were to actually be cancelled in the coming weeks, other two circuits are ready to take over: Istanbul and Sakhir. The Turkish Grand Prix would find space in June, while the second stage in Bahrain (on the external circuit, already used last year) would be relocated between October and November.
The high risk of having to revise the calendar again in the future confirms the difficulties of Formula 1 in moving beyond the European and Middle Eastern borders, as happened last season. Obviously the emergency is destined to find a solution with the implementation of the various local vaccination plans, but doubts about the more “exotic” races such as Mexico, Azerbaijan, Japan or Singapore are still very high.
