What is a Formula 1 Ferrari doing in a landfill? In the last few hours, a mysterious photo has been circulating on Twitter depicting the Ferrari F2005, the penultimate single-seater of Michael Schumacher during his time in Maranello, abandoned in a wrecker. The car, parked in the midst of wreckage, bags of rubbish and other wrecked cars, appears to be in very bad condition, with the front wing dangling and no rear wing. In reality, the image that immortalizes the former car of Michael Schumacher has been circulating on the Internet since mid-January. Furthermore, it would have been taken on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria and is actually a used car dealer. Probably, the dealership has decided to make an internal restyling, and replace the valuable pieces on display and not having found buyers for this F2005 replica decided to abandon it in the adjacent open space, among ordinary cars and wreckage, thus creating a surreal glimpse that passersby could not help but notice and immortalize.
Abandoned Ferrari F2005: a real car or show car?
Despite the pitiful state in which the single-seater is presented, the alleged F2005 in question would not actually be the original car brought to the track by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. It is in fact a show car, i.e. a model that is exactly the same as the original. The latter, however, obviously does not have the opportunity to actually take to the track, being just an exhibition replica.
In fact, the lucky few who manage to buy the real cars and who join the Ferrari F1 customer program have the opportunity to drive by booking a circuit. In addition, Maranello sends a team of mechanics for the necessary assistance. The photo of the car that is circulating on social media, on the other hand, is devoid of mechanical elements. This of course effectively makes the car just a showpiece.
The real F2005 was a particular single-seater and certainly the least appreciated by fans and insiders in the golden era of the Michael Schumacher-Ferrari pairing. That car had huge problems in the 2005 Formula 1 season, being outclassed by the Renault dominance and which allowed the young Fernando Alonso to win the first world title of his career. The F2005, on the other hand, won only one race.
