Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc confirmed that he is still working on finding a better balance between his performance on the qualifying session on Saturday and the race day pace.

Charles Leclerc, alongside his new teammate for the 2021 Formula One season, Carlos Sainz, has helped put the Maranello team back on the right track this year, recovering to third place behind Mercedes and Red Bull Racing in the Constructors’ Championship, after the extremely disappointing 2020 campaign, when the Italian side could only manage P6.

At an individual level, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have also had a solid season as they battled for fifth place in the Formula 1 Driver Standings, but Charles Leclerc has pointed out an area of improvement which he plans to address when Ferrari, hopefully, will be able to challenge rivals Mercedes and Red Bull in 2022.

“There is still a lot more to work on.” – the Monegasque driver said, as reported by Motorsport Week – “Maybe a balance from my qualifying to the race that I probably didn’t find yet, and sometimes I sacrificed a little bit more my qualifying to be better in the race as we’ve seen a few times this season. But it’s a balance I’m working on to try and get the perfect balance in between qualy and race.” – he explained.

Despite the fact that Charles Leclerc is well-known for being very self-critical, he did acknowledge one important aspect which he has improved this year:

“Definitely the race management in general. I think since early 2020 I’ve started to say it’s one of my weaknesses, especially after 2019 when I’ve had a lot of good qualifyings but then in the race I was struggling a bit more. We were struggling a bit more as a team, but also as a driver I was struggling more than others so I put a lot of work into it in 2020, I got much better and I think in 2021 it’s actually one of my strengths now.” – the Monegasque driver said.

After the winter break, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will be back in Maranello to continue preparations for the 2022 Formula 1 championship, as Scuderia Ferrari has already been putting different elements in place for the new and hopefully much more successful campaign.
