Over the course of his career, future Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has faced numerous opponents during his time at McLaren and later at Mercedes. He will undoubtedly encounter many more in his future years with Ferrari. However, when asked to choose one among Nico Rosberg, Max Verstappen, and Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton expressed no hesitation in naming his greatest rival.
The British driver addressed this topic during one of the many sponsor activities he is attending in his final weeks as a Mercedes driver.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion first revealed who he considered his greatest adversary and then explained the reasons, which also extended to off-track matters, behind his choice.
“Much more than a driver”
This is how Lewis Hamilton described Sebastian Vettel, the rival with whom he believes he had the most memorable challenges. According to Lewis Hamilton, “A rival is not judged solely by their behavior on the track.” Speaking during a Petronas-related event, he stated, “For me, Sebastian Vettel is the best world champion I know. Without a doubt, he is much more than a driver; he has a lot of passion, empathy, and cares about people.”
Lewis Hamilton added, “He is the only one who has tried to use his visibility to do something good. There are so many people who don’t care about others. For this reason, beyond how fast he was on the track, I think I had the best challenges of my career with him.” – the future Ferrari driver concluded.
