F1 | Ferrari and the “window” that never opens: harsh words against Vasseur’s comments
Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 season ends with a disappointing outcome. The only true positive remains Charles Leclerc, while some voices are questioning team principal Frédéric Vasseur’s approach in front of the media. Ferrari closes another year built on high expectations yet delivers very little. The optimistic predictions at the end of 2024 suggested a season as a frontrunner, but the Scuderia ends up fourth in the Constructors’ Championship with no victories. The bright spot is still Charles Leclerc, although several observers have expressed concerns about Fred Vasseur’s public stance.
The memories of the five wins collected in 2024 and of the late-season fight for the Constructors’ title now seem distant. The SF-25 takes a step back compared to the previous year and offers very few reasons to celebrate. The only victory of the season comes in the Chinese Sprint with Lewis Hamilton, while the remaining key results are delivered by Charles Leclerc, who secures seven podium finishes.
But it is not only the on-track performance that has raised doubts. Ferrari has not always appeared entirely transparent in its communication, with opinions often differing between the drivers and the team principal: Hamilton and Leclerc have been more critical, whereas Fred Vasseur has consistently shown a more optimistic tone. Added to this are the much-discussed statements made by Ferrari president John Elkann about his own drivers.
Italian journalists Giorgio Terruzzi and Pino Allievi highlighted Charles Leclerc’s efforts while strongly criticising the attitude of the French team principal.
“Leclerc is pushing like a madman,” Giorgio Terruzzi said on the podcast Terruzzi racconta. “But once again it’s impossible to understand why this car goes from respectable performances, like the ones Charles showed in Abu Dhabi, to disastrous showings like in Qatar. It happened so many times this year.”
“Vasseur doesn’t convince me”
The criticism of Vasseur continued: “I keep saying it, Fred Vasseur’s comments never convince me. He never really gets to the heart of things. He always repeats that it only takes a moment, just a few hundredths, to go from fourth to fourteenth place.”
“Yes, of course, but the point is that Ferrari is almost always fourteenth and almost never fourth. Those hundredths apply to everyone, but the team keeps finding itself on the wrong side of the margin,” Giorgio Terruzzi added while speaking with Pino Allievi.
“And then we never get a concrete analysis of what is truly not working. They always talk about this famous window, but what does it mean? We would like to understand what is really happening. It is impossible to get precise explanations,” concluded the Italian journalist, raising further doubts about Fred Vasseur’s communication style throughout 2025.
