Test at Fiorano: Carlos Sainz and Ferrari working on Pirelli 2023 wet tires. Carlos and Ferrari working on Pirelli 2023 wet tires.

As we reported yesterday evening, the two days of testing at Fiorano for Scuderia Ferrari started today with Carlos Sainz behind the wheel of the F1-75 challenger and will continue tomorrow with his Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc at the Italian side’s home cirucit.

The main target is to further work on wet tires in view of the 2023 Formula 1 season: these are two very important testing days for Pirelli as during the 2022 championship, the Italian manufacturer encountered little use of extreme wet tires given that the teams and drivers changed them to the intermediate ones as soon as the rain intensity decreased during the free practice sessions for various race weekends.

Max Verstappen was among the drivers most willing to offer himself as a tester to develop a tire capable of racing in extreme wet conditions, even if the main problem is not so much a more than sufficient ability of full wet tires to dispose of water encountered on the asphalt, but rather the poor visibility for the drivers who follow the tread in the light of the ‘spray’ raised precisely by the fact that the liters disposed of by the tires in extreme wet conditions are so many. Below are the tweets from Ferrari relating to today’s test day.
