While all eyes were on Formula 1 for the Monaco Grand Prix qualifying, there was a terrifying incident off the track involving a speedboat.
Charles Leclerc secured pole position in front of his home fans on the streets of Monte Carlo, beating rival Max Verstappen. It was a lackluster weekend for Red Bull: the Dutchman will start from the sixth spot, while his teammate, Sergio Pérez, is sixteenth. Third place went to the other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz.
The real action, however, occurred outside the circuit. In the famous harbor area reserved for luxury boats, a speedboat suddenly crashed, out of control, into a stationary yacht and another small dinghy nearby. Fortunately, there were no people inside the vessel. Conversely, the yacht was filled with people celebrating, but no one was injured.
The impact was severe: debris flew in various directions, while the speedboat managed to remain stationary, wedged into the damaged part of the harbor. The incident could have ended much worse. The footage, which you can see in the link at the end of the article, shows that just before the collision, two people were calmly walking on the dock, narrowly avoiding a tragedy.
“Crazy incident in Monaco today,” said a user on Instagram, who managed to capture the whole thing. According to some reports, the yacht hit belongs to the family of Logan Sargeant, a Williams driver.
The video of the speedboat incident at the Monaco harbor (you can watch it at this link) has circulated on social networks. The area where the mega luxury boats are located is one of the most exclusive in the world. The vast majority of luxury yachts moored in the harbor are owned by billionaires.
