By looking at the data from the qualifying session for the 2022 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, the perception is of a Red Bull RB18 car that, once again this year, has an aerodynamic efficiency which is its main strength, as explained by Federico Albano for formulapassion.it.
It is in fact evident that in the final part of all the straights the speed tends to increase more easily for Max Verstappen, who always finds some slightly better top speed. The general acceleration curve, however, sees an advantage for Charles Leclerc in the range between 220 and 270 km / h, where the Ferrari Power Unit evidently manages to have a particularly effective overall delivery.

Not just power though – The F1-75 immediately proved to be a complete and fast car and the newfound correlation between simulations and tracks means that the team’s work on the set-up proves to be extremely fruitful. Just look at what happens in the complex of corners 5-6 and 7, where until yesterday Charles Leclerc lost almost 10 km / h to Max Verstappen and where the red car seemed a bit struggling in the management of lateral load transfers at high speed. As can be seen from the graph, in qualifying it is Charles Leclerc who passes with a speed of 7 km / h more than Verstappen, then taking a better distance up to the braking point of turn 8. A passage that is worth 80 thousandths in favor of the Monegasque. And that we can also appreciate in the accelerator map.

In the lower part of the graph we see in fact the aforementioned section, with Verstappen on the left who completely lifts his foot from the gas (blue section) in corner 6 and is forced to partialize in turn 7, unlike Charles Leclerc who only raises 50% throttle in turn 6 and holds down 100% in turn 7, playing with the brake along with the accelerator. From this graph, in the upper part, we also see how the work aimed at improving the cornering handling of the F1-75 is confirmed, with the representation of the exit of turn 4 where it is particularly evident how Charles Leclerc can accelerate before his World Champion rival. All this is possible thanks to an effective and punctual work of the team that has been able to improve the performance of the car in the critical points, finding session after session the ideal compromise for both Charles Leclerc and his teammate. In fact, we must not forget that during free practice Carlos Sainz was about half a second away from his teammate, but thanks to the ability to understand and adapt his driving, alongside the work of the team, the Ferrari number 55 was even in pole position after the first. attempt in Q3.
