Despite the changes made in 2022, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) will still apply further amendments in 2023 to make the game easy for F1 teams. The essence of FIA is to create a sport that meets world-class standards and appeals to a bigger audience globally. F1 has many fans worldwide, so the rules will favor not only the participants but also the fans watching. Already, the governing body has announced that the sprint races will increase from three to six in 2023. You can therefore look forward to a year packed with entertainment.
F1 is one of the popular sporting competitions, following the thrill it offers. It entails car races featuring skilled drivers and their navigators. Like any sport, F1 has a structured season that happens every year. The availability of multiple races has provided enthusiasts with plenty of competitions to watch.
To F1 punters, this provides plenty of betting opportunities. Since this sport is most popular in Canada, there are several reliable betting sites Canada that cover these competitions. Hence, you can check out the available odds and bet on your favourite team. Furthermore, the new rules are likely to make the sport more exciting and also elevate its competitiveness.
Some more technical rule changes have been discussed below:
1. Slight reduction in minimum weight
2023 will see a reduction in the minimum weight of cars. In 2022, the figure was placed at 798 kilograms, but it has since been revised to 796 this year. These changes have been occasioned following the events of 2022, where many teams struggled to weigh their cars after a slight increase in that year.
2. Roll Bar changes for safety reasons
This change was inspired by a horrible accident in the British Grand Prix featuring a driver known as Guanyu Zhou. The car could not withstand the crash’s impact, and the subsequent modifications to the roll bar will be necessary to avert future accidents. In the new regulations, all drivers must ensure that their cars can withstand heavier loads and a 15G impact with the ground. The FIA has recommended that the roll bar must withstand the forward and rearward forces. Apart from the roll bar, a few changes will be made to the mirrors by increasing their surface area for better visibility of the blind spots.
3. Aerodynamic changes to combat porpoising
Porpoising is a terminology used in F1, and it refers to the bouncing movement of the current generation of Formula 1 cars. The movement is triggered when their under-floor aero stalls and the car moves away from the ground. This phenomenon had disappeared for some time, but the new rules have revived the discussion. The organizers want to eliminate porpoising, citing safety concerns, and the World Motor Sports Council has ratified the decision.
The FIA has also established floor changes to support this porpoising rule. For instance, the floor edges have been reduced to 15 millimeters. Initially, FIA had suggested a 25-millimeter increase, but the F1 teams protested the changes and settled on the reduction.
4. Fuel temperature
The 2022 F1 season raised a lot of issues concerning fuel temperature, prompting the FIA to design new rules in 2023. For instance, drivers must ensure that the fuel temperature does not exceed 10 degrees below the ambient temperature. When it is cold, the permissible temperature will be ten degrees Celsius. The FIA will designate a weather service to record the ambient temperature before practice or the actual race.
