After opening an investigation into what happened between Norris and Leclerc in the pitlane during FP2 in Singapore, the stewards have reached a decision regarding the penalty.
Friday at the Singapore GP might have already set the tone for Ferrari, as Charles Leclerc came under investigation following the incident with Lando Norris in the pitlane, with the stewards now taking a decision on the penalty.
The incident occurred in the final stages of FP2 at Marina Bay. Leclerc exited the garage after receiving the green light from his pit crew, meaning that technically he bore no responsibility. Nevertheless, the race direction decided to investigate the incident thoroughly, especially considering some fairly recent precedents.
Decision arrives for the Ferrari driver
Immediately after the first day of practice, the stewards reached a decision regarding a potential penalty for Leclerc.
“The stewards listened to the team representatives and reviewed the footage. The mechanic responsible for giving the green light miscalculated the situation,” read the statement published by race control.
The Ferrari driver will not have any grid penalties to serve during Sunday’s race. This does not complicate the Saturday schedule for the number 16, who will still need an excellent qualifying to aim for a strong result in the Grand Prix.
Ferrari has instead been handed a fine of ten thousand euros.
