Stefano Domenicali believes Ferrari must resist the temptation to make another major change amid renewed speculation linking Christian Horner with Maranello. The Formula 1 President and CEO has urged the Scuderia to remain united behind Fred Vasseur rather than throw away its current project and risk starting again from zero.
Speaking to RAI Radio 1, Stefano Domenicali addressed the recent comments made by former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and the subsequent speculation surrounding a possible future move to Ferrari. For the former Ferrari team principal, continuity is particularly important at a time when results are falling short of expectations.
Stefano Domenicali warns Ferrari against another reset
Stefano Domenicali, who led Ferrari from 2008 until 2014, believes the current situation requires strength and stability rather than another change of direction.
“It is a moment when the results are not what people expect. My experience tells me that precisely at a time when there are so many rumours, including important people putting themselves forward, you have to remain strong and united and avoid fanciful solutions that risk leading you down the wrong path and causing you to fall even further behind.”
The message is clear: changing leadership simply because Ferrari is going through a difficult period could create even greater problems. Stefano Domenicali’s concern is that another reset could cost the Scuderia more time against its competitors, with Ferrari’s comparison with its Formula 1 rivals providing a broader picture of the competitive battle.
Fred Vasseur urged to keep Ferrari on course
During his appearance on Radio anch’io sport on RAI Radio 1, Stefano Domenicali also spoke directly about Fred Vasseur and the responsibility that comes with leading Ferrari through a difficult season.
“The person responsible for a team like Ferrari, Fred Vasseur, has to feel the desire to keep the ship on course and have a clear idea of what needs to be done on a path towards winning. The stronger the storm, the more the captain has to keep the ship on course.”
For Stefano Domenicali, therefore, the answer to Ferrari’s difficulties is not necessarily another change at the top. Instead, Fred Vasseur and the wider Maranello structure must remain focused on the long-term path required to return the team to winning consistently.
Stefano Domenicali praises Andrea Kimi Antonelli
The Formula 1 CEO also discussed the remarkable season Andrea Kimi Antonelli is currently enjoying, focusing particularly on the young driver’s ability to deal with pressure while leading the championship.
“He is having an extraordinary season. His strength and freshness are bringing new attention to our championship. Andrea Kimi Antonelli has shown what it means to have talent, but above all that he knows how to handle the pressure that naturally comes when you are leading the championship.”
Stefano Domenicali added that Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s performances are also helping Formula 1 attract a new generation of supporters.
“What he is doing has brought us new fans, young people who are interested not only in his qualities on the track, but also in him as a dynamic and fresh young man.”
Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s ability to manage the demands of a championship campaign has become one of the defining themes of his season, with his mentality under pressure also drawing praise elsewhere in the paddock. More on that aspect of his campaign can be found in the assessment of Andrea Kimi Antonelli’s championship mentality.
