Former Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali, who has recently joined Channel 4 for its coverage of the 2019 Formula 1 season, provides insight on the first race of the championship and shares his thoughts on the Scuderia’s performance at the Australian Grand Prix. Former team principal Stefano Domenicali admits that the Scuderia were slow in Melbourne, but suggests waiting until the Bahrain Grand Prix to see if it is a worrying sign for the rest of the 2019 F1 season:
“For sure it was a very difficult weekend for Ferrari, with the team not being able to show the level of performance which everybody expected after the pre-season testing sessions. But we know that Melbourne is different to the other races, so before overreaction Bahrain will be really important to see the status of the real performance, because in Australia no matter whether it was the car or the tyres it was clear that Ferrari was too slow. But there is no reason to say something before you have understood what exactly has happened. Watching from the outside it is clear that it was not the expected performance in the level of expectations in terms of comparison with others, for me it was a little bit strange to see the gap that they had to behind the grid, that is showing that for sure there was something which was really not spot on.” – Stefano Domenicali said, as reported by Channel 4 at the end of the 2019 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
