Stefano Domenicali spoke in an interview with Sky Sport F1 Italy and shared his thoughts on the upcoming F1 season and the drivers on the grid.
The 2026 F1 season is fast approaching, and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali appears ready for the major regulation changes coming next year. The cars, besides the engine revolution, will also undergo an aerodynamic revolution. This will include the introduction of active aerodynamics, which will be directly controlled by the drivers through new settings and buttons on the steering wheel. According to Domenicali, adapting to these changes will not be easy for all drivers, but some may adjust faster than others.
“Younger drivers are used to the PlayStation”: his admission
Interviewed by Sky Sport F1 Italy, Stefano Domenicali expressed his excitement about the new generation of drivers: “I am very happy with the propulsive effect of the young drivers. They have shown they are really strong. What I’ve seen has also had an effect in engaging many more young people from outside who didn’t follow us before. And so this has increased interest in our sport.” – the Italian pointed out.
The F1 CEO appeared genuinely pleased to see this new generation performing so strongly: “I don’t see any of them who hasn’t shown their qualities, some more, some less. We saw a driver who on the first formation lap everyone was about to put under the spotlight. Yet arriving at this race, he confirmed a clear step forward. This shows that everyone has had the ability to evolve, to grow, and in this respect, we should be absolutely happy.”
Regarding the upcoming season and its new challenges, the Italian made an admission: “Next year, I expect the young drivers to have an even better ability to manage all the new parameters of the car. They grew up with the PlayStation effect. The fact that they will have to manage many more parameters than today, I believe, will work to their advantage. That’s my thought; we’ll see if those with a bit more experience have trained more on the simulator or not.” – the former Ferrari boss concluded.
