Both Stefano Domenicali and Mattia Binotto over the course of their careers have found themselves managing the Scuderia Ferrari team on the track and then resigning from the role of team principal of the Maranello team.
Stefano Domenicali, after an amazing experience at the helm of the Lamborghini brand since January 2021, is currently the managing director of Liberty Media with regard to Formula 1.
In a recent interview for the Spanish newspaper Marca, the Italian manager obviously did not want to comment too much on an issue that involves him emotionally since he is very close to Mattia Binotto: “In the light of the position I occupy, I can’t say anything – Stefano Domenicali’s words – except to wish Mattia Binotto all the best for his future and wish Ferrari to find a person who can continue the journey started this year which has seen Ferrari become competitive again and finish second in the championship. A competitive Ferrari for Formula 1 is as important as it is for Carlos Sainz who has had an excellent season and obviously hopes to be able to count on a competitive team again in 2023. This is what we at Liberty Media want (the words referring to Cralos Sainz are to be traced back to the fact that, being interviewed by a Spanish newspaper, Stefano Domenicali mentioned the solid 2022 Formula 1 championship for the Ferrari driver).
Having confirmed Mattia Binotto’s departure, Scuderia Ferrari stated in their official press release that the ‘process is underway to identify Scuderia Ferrari’s new Team Principal and is expected to be finalised in the new year’.
