Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that Formula 1 is considering a return to some traditions as it prepares for the 2027 season. Even with just a few weeks remaining before the new championship kicks off, the management of the F1 circus is already working on several changes to implement for the future.
F1 looks back while planning for 2027
Among the proposals being considered is a return to a large, collective car launch event, similar to what was seen in 2025 during the 75th anniversary of Formula 1. On that occasion, the famous O2 Arena in London hosted a spectacular show involving every team on the grid, turning the car presentations into a global media event. The launch had an enormous impact, and it also marked one of Lewis Hamilton’s first official appearances as a Scuderia Ferrari driver, capturing the attention of millions of fans worldwide.
“We are thinking about a launch similar to 2025 with all the teams participating. The effect was incredible and it felt like the twenty-fifth race of the year in terms of global communication. But for now, we are only discussing it,” Stefano Domenicali explained, emphasizing that the goal is to further strengthen the connection between sport, entertainment, and the international audience.
Not just marketing: fewer pre-season tests
The CEO also confirmed that in 2027, Formula 1 will return to only three days of pre-season testing. “We will go back to just three days of testing. This year we added extra days because we knew about the challenges linked to the regulation changes,” he said. Reducing the test days aims to streamline preparations while maintaining the excitement and performance levels that fans expect.
These early announcements give a clear picture of F1’s direction for 2027: a balance between spectacle and sporting efficiency, with fewer tests but potentially more show-stopping global events that unite teams, drivers, and fans alike.
