Stefano Domenicali, former Team Principal of Ferrari, reacts to the rumors about a possible return to the Maranello team, in a difficult moment for everyone, blocked by the coronavirus and waiting for a clearer health picture. Motor racing is lacking to everyone, and the former Ferrari team principal, who led the team between 2008 and 2014, makes no exception:
Stefano Domenicali walks around the house. Nova Levante, Dolomites. He would like to free the bull. The Lamborghini symbol. President and CEO since 2016, a manager raised alonsgide Ferrari, a sports man, often indicated as the ideal candidate to transfer dynamism and ethics to other companies. Policy included?
“It is not my field. Specific preparation is needed to manage public affairs. A political office should presuppose maximum competence to generate effectiveness. I am interested in sports policy, rather, a terrain that I know best” – he said, according to Corriere della Sera.
On the coronavirus situation, he is torn: “A part of me always chooses optimism. It is enough for me to think of the many people whose competence and desire are now to help in a critical phase like this, to our Italian DNA, which is not to give up, at the cost of emigrating, to face enormous sacrifices. But I am also dealing with a strong concern: there is no strategic and unitary vision, too many committees, task forces, uncertainties, while precise indications are needed, a reassuring direction.” – Stefano Domenicali explained.
In the upper floors of F1, the name Domenicali is in constant circulation. As a possible successor to Jean Todt at the FIA, as the next leader of Liberty Media. What’s true? “It is true that I am chairman of the FIA commission for single-seater cars. And that I remain a Formula 1 enthusiast. But I will stay where I am. When it comes to Ferrari, the news becomes uncontrollable. I have known Elkann for years, I have known that environment for a lifetime. Of course we talk to each other, we discuss the key themes of the automotive world. But the idea of going back to Maranello remains jus gossip.” – the former Team Principal of Ferrari concluded.
