Following the announcement of Monza’s GP renewal, many are expecting (and hoping) that the same fate will befall Imola, one of the most iconic venues in F1 history.
The situation is not straightforward. For several seasons now, the sport has been experiencing a new golden age, attracting more and more countries to the world of racing.
This has led to a steadily increasing number of requests to join the calendar, forcing Stefano Domenicali to find a solution.
Are there still chances for Imola?
Stefano Domenicali addressed this topic during the Autosprint “Golden Helmets” award ceremony. “The goal is to continue growing, especially in places where we are not yet as strong as in others,” stated the F1 CEO.
“Imola stepped up in 2020 when we struggled to organize the calendar due to COVID. This must not be forgotten. However, given the numerous requests we are receiving, it’s challenging to sustain two races in the same country.”
“Of course, we are exploring a solution. One possibility could be the rotation of certain races, but nothing has been decided,” Stefano Domenicali concluded.
