Many had been expecting a response from the Federation regarding the events of the Losail weekend. For this reason, the FIA has decided to release an extensive statement following the numerous controversies surrounding the Qatar Grand Prix.
There were too many negative aspects during a weekend that was supposed to mark the conclusion of Max Verstappen’s pursuit of a third world championship. Amid the tire chaos, which made it challenging for drivers to comprehend the race, and the exhaustion caused by extreme weather conditions, many criticized the organization and management of the just-concluded weekend.
As a result, the FIA has chosen to issue a statement regarding the incidents during the Qatar Grand Prix. “The FIA takes note with concern of what happened due to high humidity and elevated temperatures,” the statement reads. “Despite being high-level athletes, drivers should not compete in conditions that jeopardize their health. For this reason, the FIA will take appropriate measures to establish and communicate acceptable parameters for the various competitions.”
“The FIA has initiated an analysis of the situation to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Although next year’s Qatar Grand Prix will be held later in the season, with lower temperatures, the FIA prefers to take immediate action,” the statement continues. “Various solutions will be discussed during the next meeting of the medical commission. These measures will include modifications to improve cockpit airflow and recommendations for calendar adjustments due to extreme weather conditions. The FIA will work closely with the medical, technical, and safety departments.”
