The organisation of Spa-Francorchamps explained in a recent discussion with DH Net that it does not believe the latest rumours regarding the fact that the Belgian Grand Prix may permanently be removed from the Formula 1 calendar after the 2022 event, which takes place in August, after the summer break. This is the view of Belgian GP promoter Vanessa Maes, who was interviewed by the Belgian media.
A few days ago several media outlets confirmed that the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organisations had a draft calendar for the 2023 Formula 1 championship. Taking into consideration the fact that races in Qatar, Las Vegas, South Africa and China should be included on next year’s calendar, it is clear that other venues will no longer have a place for 2023 and beyond. It seems that the Belgian Grand Prix an dthe French Grand Prix are the two events that risk losing out.
However, Vanessa Maes feels this is not the case at for now. The Belgian Grand Prix promoter is taking part in discussions with the FIA regarding the future of the Spa-Francorchamps event, which indicates that the Belgian circuit is still trying to do everything possible to keep its place in the programme for the 2023 F1 campaign.
“I would like to know the source,” she explicitly replied when she was pointed out to this news. “I have made enquiries and have been assured by the FIA that there is no draft calendar circulating among the teams at the moment. It is all speculation.” – she added.

However, director Vanessa Maes is aware that the long term future of the Belgian Grand Prix is under pressure. “There is a lot of discussion, that’s for sure. We are at the end of our contract, as are Monaco and Le Castellet and we are still negotiating an extension.”
