The Belgian Grand Prix at Spa is one step away from officially confirming a two-year extension within the F1 calendar.
Great News
The Belgian Grand Prix at Spa has been confirmed in the 2024 F1 calendar and will also be part of the 2025 calendar. The official announcement is expected shortly, as reported by the main French-language newspaper in Belgium, Le Soir. For now, the idea of alternating the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort and the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa from 2025 has been set aside. This could have turned it into the ‘Max Verstappen Grand Prix,’ as the three-time world champion has both Dutch (father Jos) and Belgian (mother Sophie) nationalities.
The timing in the calendar should continue to match the current one, taking place at the end of July, one month earlier than the tradition that saw teams and drivers return to the track after the summer break at the circuit nestled in the Ardennes forest.
The 2023 edition set a record for public attendance, with 380,000 people filling the stands and lawns of the beautiful Belgian circuit over the weekend. The organization has evidently provided Liberty Media with the answers they were seeking regarding infrastructure and entertainment. Therefore, at least for the next two years, Spa can breathe a sigh of relief regarding the presence of the Belgian Grand Prix on the calendar. This lines up with the contract duration of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort (also secure until 2025).
