The fifth round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship has also come to an end and Max Verstappen has forcefully secured his third victory of the season. As usual, key figures intervened in the post-race analysis on Sky Sport F1 Italy and within different opinions, they tried to explain the problems encountered by the Ferrari SF-23 during this weekend at the Miami International Autodrome in Florida, USA.
One of the most interesting comments was made by former GT driver Matteo Bobbi who analyzed Ferrari’s American weekend explaining, according to him, what the real problem of this single-seater is. Below we report his words.
Ferrari: the analysis of Matteo Bobbi
Data in hand, Matteo Bobbi analyzed in detail all the difficulties encountered by Ferrari during these last races, and despite the upcoming updates, he did not blame the aerodynamic part: “It’s so complicated. What we can do from the outside is try to put together the pieces of the puzzle. When a car is able to do a pole or a front row, it means that aerodynamically speaking, the car is good and has load points. I imagine the problem is on the mechanical and suspension side.”
The Italian champion then focused on the mistake that Charles Leclerc made on Saturday during qualifying and the problems encountered on Sunday during the race. According to the Sky commentator, the problem is not related to the delay in the much-awaited Red Bull-style aerodynamic updates, but precisely it is a matter of SF-23 suspension.

Matteo Bobbi stated: “Yesterday we saw Charles Leclerc spin on a curb when he comes down because the car starts to bounce. Today he had the same problem and had a different behavior between the beginning and the end of the race. The aerodynamics do not change during the race. That is and remains the same. The suspension makes the difference depending on how it reacts to the different loads of the car. Therefore, I believe that the focus should really be on the mechanical aspects of the single-seater rather than on the updates that may give you more downforce or less drag. I think the difference is made here, but evidently, it is something very difficult to do.” – the Italian pointed out.
As explained by Matteo Bobbi himself, Scuderia Ferrari should work more on the mechanical part of its car, but probably the areas on which they should intervene are very difficult to modify during the ongoing season. In two weeks, we will return to the Italian track of Imola, where the Maranello team will bring several novelties to try to lift the season a little. We just have to wait and see how the first of the two homes races will go for Ferrari.
