Six teams breaking 2022 budget cap, but Ferrari assures “we are within limit”. Six teams breaking 2022 budget cap.

Six teams are apparently at risk of exceeding the budget cap in the 2022 Formula 1 season. This was the statement made by Red Bull bosses Helmut Marko and Christian Horner, who underlined that the managers of those teams were in fact the ones who already admitted being over the budget limit in view of the FIA review during the meetings of the F1 Commission.

Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto pointed at at the need to keep expenses and developments of all the teams under strict observation ever since the start of the 2022 Formula 1 championship. Without a doubt, Red Bull and Mercedes are the teams that have brought the greatest number of updates during the current campaign and are obviously expected at the gate when the FIA will present the accounts of the season which is now drawing to a close.

The Ferrari team principal commented on the rumors that speak about more than half of the grid being beyond the spending limit in this 2022 championship: “The hope is that there isn’t a team which somehow has exceeded the budget, it would be a shame for the sport. By seeing teams that develop so much, however, some doubts can arise” – Mattia Binotto’s words in the press conference at the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix

“If you listen to and read the rumors around, there is talk of six teams being over the spending limit in 2022. There is this rumor going around, but I can assure you that it is not the case with Ferrari. We stayed within financial regulations last year and we are within the limit in 2022 as well. It has been a difficult year, we have always said that the budget cap was more difficult to manage this season than the previous one due to the new cars, the lower limit and inflation. It was a complex process, in which we put great effort. For next year we will try to be even more efficient, but I think we already are now” – Mattia Binotto explained.

Mercedes developed the W13 until practically the end of this 2022, bringing the final part of an important package to Mexico after starting to test the new updates in Austin. Ferrari, on the other hand, interrupted development on the F1-75 due to the expenditure budget being reached: “We interrupted development, but it wasn’t a choice, we had simply reached the spending limit and there was no more money to develop the car. Additional expenses would have been needed to produce the pieces and bring them to the track and we couldn’t afford it” – Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
