The Singapore Grand Prix, which was the first night race absent from the Formula one calendar in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will return on the calendar this season as the middle event of a triple header which also includes the Russian and Japanese Grand Prix.

The last Singapore Grand Prix contract extension was a four-year agreement confirmed back in September 2017, which was supposed to run until 2021. Yet given the fact that the most recent to events could not take place, the latest contract in effect represents a two-plus-five years deal in order to acknowledge the cancelled Formula 1 races.

The sport wants to extend its partnership with promoters who were not able to host events due to COVID in order to help them regain momentum and to guarantee the long-term futures of their events.

Venues are in turn aware that there’s increasing interest from potential new races, and thus there will be increasing competition for a slot on future calendars.

In November a ne deal was signed to run the Chinese GP until the 2025 championship, despte the fact that the Shanghai event will not take place this year.

The plans that are in place to reduce the carbon footprint of the event are impressive and align with our plans to be Net Zero Carbon as a sport by 2030 and I look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Singapore GP and the Singapore Tourism Board as Formula 1 returns to this incredible city.” – he concluded.
