In the Mexican Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari experienced one of the most disappointing weekends of its fluctuating 2022 Formula 1 season. Neither in qualifying nor in the race were Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz able to get closer to the pace of their closest rivals at the wheel of Red Bull and Mercedes, ending the race at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City with a disappointing fifth and sixth final position.
Carlos Sainz finished ahead of his Maranello teammate, but more than a minute behind race winner Max Verstappen. A rather significant deficit that reminded many of the gap seen earlier this year at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. In Belgium, however, Carlos Sainz had managed to save the honor by climbing on the lowest step of the podium, while in Mexico there was never the real possibility for the two F1-75s to get closer to the top 3.
At the end of last Sunday’s race, Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto stressed how the Maranello team would try to deal with the problems suffered at the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in the days following the race, also in view of the Brazilian Grand Prix scheduled for the weekend of 11-13 November. To try to better prepare himself for the trip to Interlagos, Charles Leclerc himself also got back to work: the Monegasque driver was present in Maranello today to carry out the traditional work in the simulator and prepare for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Monegasque also shared a photo with his fans via his Instagram profile, complete with ‘race mode’ in plain sight on the wheel. The one that could face some more difficulties in the next round is Carlos Sainz who – according to what Mattia Binotto said after the race in Mexico – could take new power unit components and therefore receive a penalty on the starting grid.
