Home » Simone Resta reacts to rumors of frictions between him and Mattia Binotto

Simone Resta reacts to rumors of frictions between him and Mattia Binotto. Simone Resta is at work on the Ferrari of 2021.

Simone Resta is at work on the Ferrari of 2021. No disagreements with Mattia Binotto , as has been wrongly said. In an upcoming Autosprint interview, Simone Resta denied the rumors that there are frictions between him and Binotto!

The relationship between Simone Resta and the Scuderia team principal is therefore solid. On the other hand, it was Binotto who favored Resta’s return to Maranello from Sauber last summer after the two years spent in Hinwil. And it was also Binotto who entrusted Resta with a very delicate role in the development of Ferrari: the responsibility for designing the chassis of the next 2021 single-seater, the one that will have to revive the fortunes of the Scuderia on track next year after this unfortunate season.

If there were friction between the two as rumored, do you think Binotto would have assigned Simone Resta such a strategic task for the future?

The young engineer from Imola is working on the development of the Ferrari single-seater in a 2021 key aspect. How to improve the disappointing SF1000 that is creating so many difficulties in the run-up to Leclerc and Vettel. The current Ferrari was born last summer when he was still at Sauber. He joined the Maranello racing department only last November. A single-seater already practically deliberated in its basic concepts. Now he is trying to figure out where to get his hands on the chassis to restore competitiveness to Ferrari. How to solve the critical points of that car for the 2021 championship within the limits of the strict rules imposed by the FIA.

The anticipation of the interview
Resta interrupts his work in Maranello to speak with Autosprint for an exclusive interview that will be published in the next issue of the weekly magazine, of which we are anticipating a passage:

Engineer, the rules decided after Covid limited the intervention margins for modifying the cars in 2021 for cost reasons. Can something really be done to change the behavior of the car?

“Aerodynamics is free but with restrictions on the number of hours to be spent in the wind tunnel for aerodynamic development. And then there is a constraint for the development of the components that concerns the frame. Term by which we mean the body, the suspension. , brakes and everything related to the car except the external bodywork. You will be allowed to spend what we call two “tokens” for chassis modifications. That is to intervene in two critical areas of the car to improve it. With two tokens I could decide to make the new frame because maybe I want to place the radiators differently, change the wheelbase and move the weights. Or I could spend a development token on the brakes to make them new and another token on the nose doing it differently, but at that point I have to perform a new crash test “.

Who decides in which area changes can be made?
“The team. Us. It is the designers’ task. It is the work I am doing now together with my colleagues. We are deciding where to intervene to improve the current project”.

And you in which area have you decided to intervene for Ferrari 2021?
“We are moving towards redesigning the rear of the car. We will redesign that area because we think there are more promising possibilities to develop in that area to increase the performance margin.”

Full interview with Simone Resta will be released next Tuesday (20.10.20).
