Silverstone has officially confirmed a provisional date for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix event which will take place next year.
The Northamptonshire circuit’s official website listed 1-3 July as the provisional slot for next year’s British Grand Prix in an announcement on Friday ahead of the start of ticket sales.
For the moment Formula 1 has not yet released a provisional calendar for the next championship, but the 2022 season will most likely begin in the Middle East in March, just like this year. A double-header consisting of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia has been considered as the most likely opening to Formula 1’s new era with sweeping regulation changes coming into force.
Silverstone hosted the largest attended event in the UK since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic on July 18 with a capacity 140,000. A 1-3 July slot would mark the earliest British Grand Prix since 2013, when the race was held on 30 June.
Silverstone hosted the fourth round of the 2000 F1 world championship in April, which remains the earliest date for a British Grand Prix. Four triple-headers took place last season and this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix will mark the second of three planned triple-headers in 2021, while several team bosses urged Formula 1 to avoid scheduling triple-headers in future calendars due to the increased pressures placed on staff.
This season will mark the longest championship in the sport’s history with 22 races, in the hope no other round will have to be canceled in the second part of the season.
