Carlos Sainz has also shared his thoughts on the internal situation that Ferrari is dealing with following the unexpected outburst from president John Elkann. Below is the video and the Spanish driver’s reaction.
Ferrari, throughout this 2025 season, has had to navigate several difficult moments — and not only those related to on-track performance. The team has also faced internal and external issues that have made the campaign far more complicated than expected. Less than two weeks ago came John Elkann’s surprising reprimand, in which he explicitly told Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to “talk less and focus only on driving.” Now, the former Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has offered his view on the current situation at Maranello.
Carlos Sainz had to leave Ferrari at the end of last season. The Spaniard would have preferred to continue his journey with the Scuderia, but the team’s senior management chose instead to sign Lewis Hamilton. Because of that decision, the driver of car number 55 eventually moved to Williams, where he has endured a season that feels somewhat like purgatory, hoping to return as a leading figure in 2026 when the new technical regulations arrive.
Sainz on Ferrari’s difficult moment
“As a former Ferrari driver, do you think Ferrari drivers must be more careful about what they say in public, with the risk of irritating the team’s senior management compared to what happens at Williams?” This was the pointed question asked by Ted Kravitz, directed straight at Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard had absolutely no hesitation in responding, distancing himself entirely from the situation — something that, admittedly, was more than predictable.
“It’s none of my business. Do you know the frog-with-the-tea meme? That’s literally me right now.” That was the reply from the Spanish driver, who fully avoided being dragged into the matter. The attempted trick question therefore had no effect on the Spanish driver, who chose to remain silent and mind his own business. In the meantime, public reactions from both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton regarding the “Elkann situation” have also arrived. Below are their words.
“John called me earlier, as he does after every race, to let me know how he was doing and to tell me that the message he wanted to send was a positive one — that we need to do better, and that this is clear to everyone. So in reality we are on the same wavelength, and I will do everything I can to bring Ferrari back to the top. His intention was positive, and that is what really matters to me. That is why it doesn’t bother me.” This was Charles Leclerc’s explanation.
As for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton stated: “I talk to John every week, we have an incredible relationship. I know his intentions. Sometimes we talk several times a week, so we’ve spoken multiple times since last week.”
It therefore appears that calm has returned within Ferrari. Are the words of the two drivers simply an attempt to patch things up after Elkann’s criticisms? Hard to say…
