All eyes in the Shanghai paddock were on Ferrari for the debut of the “Macarena” rear wing, but the Scuderia brought another small yet significant aerodynamic update to the SF-26: a tiny winglet on the front pillar of the Halo, designed to clean airflow before it reaches the cockpit.
Macarena rear wing steals the headlines
It was inevitable: most of the paddock’s attention in Shanghai today was focused on Ferrari, which mounted the new “Macarena” rear wing on both SF-26 cars. Ferrari sent three versions of the flap-equipped wing to China at the last moment, but that wasn’t the only novelty on the cars.
New micro wing on the Halo
On Charles Leclerc’s car, which returned from pit stop practice on the pit lane, a small but noticeable update was visible on the front element of the Halo. Just above the Marelli micro camera, installed in recent years to capture HD images of the cockpit for incident analysis, Ferrari added a tiny metallic winglet. This component helps to clean and redirect airflow from the central Halo pillar, guiding air upwards over the cockpit before it reaches the driver’s helmet.
Continuous aerodynamic development
Ferrari continues to demonstrate remarkable dynamism in aerodynamic development, showing that the SF-26 has been carefully studied in the wind tunnel. This small update reflects the team’s intent to evolve the car week by week, with a continuous development program. The underlying strategy is clear: success in 2026 will come down to the team’s ability to outpace rivals in delivering upgrades and refining performance.
The appearance of this halo winglet, combined with the aggressive deployment of the flip-flap rear wing, suggests that Ferrari is operating at peak technical confidence. By refining how air enters and exits the cockpit area, Maranello is optimizing the SF-26 for the high-speed demands of the Chinese circuit. As the first Sprint weekend of the year gets underway, the question remains: will these micro-updates be enough to bridge the gap to the Silver Arrows? One thing is certain—the Scuderia is leaving no stone unturned in its quest for the 2026 crown.
