Aston Martin has developed an innovative intake that channels air to cool the rear radiators, positioned between the Cobra, the vertical flap that Ferrari introduced last year, and the Halo attachment to the chassis.
The Silverstone-based team opted to direct airflow losses into the intake to clean up the flow directed towards the rear, improving the efficiency of the rear wing.
However, the concept seems to be of interest beyond just the air intake, as both Ferrari’s SF-25 and Red Bull’s RB21 have introduced a horizontal flap connecting the Cobra to the driver’s head protection, creating a channel to direct air where needed.
This horizontal element is not meant to reinforce the Cobra but has been specifically designed to optimize the management of an aerodynamically sensitive area of the car.
Red Bull has developed the concept slightly differently, combining two elements: the Milton Keynes team has added a horizontal profile ahead of the vertical flap, utilizing a larger surface area, while at the base, there is a cooling intake that Ferrari does not have at the start of the mini bazooka.
It is easy to imagine that this idea could set a trend and be adopted by other teams as well.
