Following Tuesday’s official unveiling of the SF-24 single-seater and a brief shakedown at the Fiorano circuit, the Maranello team returned to the track on yesterday. Engaging in the 200km filming day sanctioned by the FIA (the first of two allotted in the 2024 Formula 1 season), Carlos Sainz initiated operations in the morning session, with teammate Charles Leclerc taking the wheel for the afternoon session, as many Tifosi attended the event with great enthusiasm.
Completion of Commercial Footage and Preliminary Analysis Preceding Bahrain Testing
These sessions serve the purpose of teams validating the proper assembly of their single-seaters. It marks the maiden voyage of the car outside the factory, allowing teams to assess its performance under real conditions.
Ideally, teams aim to promptly align the on-track experience with the drivers’ simulator feedback, based on concrete data. As Charles Leclerc candidly acknowledged last year, his initial laps were less than encouraging.
Commenting on Tuesday’s first 15km, the Monegasque stated” “The sensations are better than last year, but it’s still early.”
Yesterday, both drivers gained a more comprehensive understanding, although the event remains a purely promotional one, with the car not pushed to its limits. The work program proceeded without a hitch.
During the 200km, the Italian side conducted conventional tests on ground clearance, a crucial consideration with this new generation of cars. Additionally, engineers in Maranello initiated an examination of the new suspensions, with a special focus on the rear.

For the 2024 Formula 1 season, internal elements have undergone revisions, accompanied by a new arrangement of the tie rod within the triangle design.
Despite Fiorano’s recent resurfacing, the track provides valuable insights into the car’s responsiveness to bumps and its mechanical behavior, owing to various ground heights.
These initial indications serve as a foundation for teams, guiding their simulator data transfer and preparations for the demanding tasks that lie ahead in Bahrain. Simultaneously, the Ferrari Racing Division continues its work on the first updates and developments scheduled for later introduction on the SF-24, following the pre-season testing session which takes place next week at the Sakhir circuit.
