Red Bull Mexican driver Sergio Perez is set to meet with the stewards ahead of the qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix due to an incident during the third practice session, which was held earlier today at the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit. The Red Bull driver is under scrutiny for allegedly impeding the Ferrari SF-24 car of Carlos Sainz, narrowly avoiding a collision on Saturday.
This follows a separate incident from Friday’s second practice, where both drivers were summoned to the stewards. In that case, Carlos Sainz received a warning as the one at fault, while Sergio Perez was blameless. However, during the third practice, the Mexican driver was held responsible. He was moving slowly along the racing line near Turn 15, while the Spanish driver, who was on a fast lap, was forced to lock up and cut through the inside of the chicane to avoid contact. Sergio Perez attempted to move wide but not in time to prevent the near-miss.
